Wool felt

Hi

I'm looking for a UK supplier of wool felt. 8-10mm thick, high wool content, for making boot liners and insoles from.

Anyone got any good leads? Done the usual google searches and followed up in a few but the prices are high at £45 per square metre - or is this the going rate?

You could make your own. Felt's easy, a good fleece will cost you under a tenner and will make at least three or four pairs.

Just had another thought. One of the fleece suppliers also supplies felt batts. This is partially felted wool intended for decoration and further felting to shrink and harden it.

This stuff can be hard felted just using soap and warm water and pressure.

It's a lot cheaper than £45 a metre and it will make socks too

Hi Barry, I do a bit of leatherwork and when I collected my last lot of off-cuts from my friendly local saddler, she gave me some felt off cuts- they use a fair bit of it and subsequently have off-cuts. After all, you only need "foot" sized pieces!!! Anyway, get to know your saddler - they can be very useful!! Good luck, JT
