Good idea. If there are any holes in it you could use the opportunity of the coincidence of cotton and coat to repair them.

Anyone remember those cars with the toothed pull cord thingy?

Great fun doing that when I was young.

I remember those cars but I didn't have one. There was a similar thing which launched little rotor disc thingies by pulling a toothed plastic doofry - the sort of thing I imagined a triffid killer to resmble.

Your cotton reels make all sorts of toys Tengu but you can also turn them into knitting nancy's to make cords and laces for clothing and boots.

Thanks British Red: I used to make these when I was a child but whenI tried to make one for my grandson, it didn't work. Thanks to your picture, I now know I'd forgotten the candle stub bit.
