Regwings and Fieldfares arrived here last week along with a massive influx of jays - the acorn crop on the continent has failed apparently.

Skein of 40 pinks heading over the tops today, heading for the bay.

Still the odd Swallow hanging around but its definitely turning autumnal.

Thats interesting. I'm about as far north as you are, yet the fieldfares normally dont turn up until Jan/Feb time. We had a great spotted woodpecker in the garden yesterday for the first time.

We get GSW's nesting in the riverside trees behind our house, saw one the other week flying well away from the nearest tree. I read that woodpeckers need massive territories in winter, 750ha for a pair of LSW's.

The redwing and fieldfare aren't really hanging around, they are all heading west south west, and have left my rowan berries decimated. Big movement last night - could hear redwing overflying around midnight.
