I saw this pretty fellow today - about 4" high with 1/4" flowers and 2" leaves. I've checked my books but can't get a positive ID - can anyone help?

If it has spotty leaves it could be common lungwort, just a guess though!
I agree. It's common Lungwort. The flowers can be very variable. All the way from pinky red to blue. :)

No, fairly plain green leaves - slightly hairy as you can see but no lobes or serrations

Checked it out - you are (of course) spot on - common lungwort it is!

I was thinking dark spots as per lords and ladies. I should learn to think!

Thanks you all!

Either way I got to learn so please thank Mrs Goose (does that make you a Gander? :D)

And of course Fred, Chas, Mary, Thomas, Jon, Kevin, the bloke down the road, two chavs stopped in the street and a baby in a pram whose knowledge of wild flowers is better than mine :)

I know my place ;)

I didn't know what Hound's tongue looked like so I've learned something too. The flowers do look similar in the photos.

Seems it's not really found in my bit of the world, ah well

cheers,

Because Red said there were no spots on the leaves, I was looking at others it could be, and hounds tounge likes chalky soil, as what Red is on, but its a taller plant....We get lots of green alkanet round here, but I could see it was not that...
Thats my excuse and I am sticking with it..... :D
