Wild camping spots in North England or Southern Scotland

Hi, Andy here,

I was wondering if anyone knows where is a good place to camp, allowing the building of shelters with tarps and also to start a fire, somewhere in Northern England or Southern Scotland (within a couple of hours drive of the NE of England). I am looking for a place that my son and I can try out some survival techniques. Both of us are new to this and have wild camped a couple of times in a designated wood that allowed tents to be used and fires to be lit, however it was rather busy which somewhat spoiled the feeling of being alone and remote.

Any suggestions welcome.

Hi Andy - have you come across Camp Wild - they have access to a load of private land for 'permitted wild camping'.
They also list 'wilder' campsites.
