Can I throw.a spanner in the works and suggest the Lowe Alpine Sting. I know that 55 litres is big for day stuff but you can cinch it down with the compression side straps, you can add side pockets for modularity, it has a decent back system with padded hip belt and it was built for the dutch army so its built to be squaddie-proof. You can pick them up for 40 notes at the mo. Downside is they are DPM coloured which does put some folk off.
A mate uses one amd he really rates it (despite being notoriously picky). I'd be tempted myself if I didn't have a very old Berghaus Vulcan for longer trips and a wee molle pack for days.
 
No, there's no zips for them, but there's molle on the sides for smaller pouches which are cheap to buy, I got one for each side for a tenner each delivered; PLCE pockets would defeat the idea of this pack, two of them would be nearly 60% of the volume of it..................if you want that size of a thing, buy the 45, you can get a military desert one new for fifty quid - in fact I've got a spare one!
