what kind of sheaths do you prefere???

what kind of sheaths do you prefere? leather or kydex? why do you prefere that kind!!

I prefer leather! Leather is easy to repair, especially in the sewings.
It produces moisture, but for long time storage just keep the knife out of the sheath. Leathersheaths are also the most beautiful.... :!: :idea:

I'm to old to be anything but a traditionalist. It's leather -leather and more leather.

I have made knives with Cordura sheaths, plastic sheaths, kydex sheaths and consealex sheaths. All my personal knives have a leather sheath. I truly see no advantage in any other materials. If you take reasonable care of a leather sheath it should last a more than reasonable length of time. (now here's where I contradict myself)

Coudura sheaths are stiched together just like leather. In my experiance the stiching is the first to go so I see no advantage in the cordura or lined cordura.

Kydex and consealex sheaths , if made properly for the knife should out last the knife. From a practical standpoint they are most likely the best. If Made Properly. I just don't like that they are loud and look like injected -molded plastic. That is a personal preferance and I already said that I'm old and stubborn. Since they have no stitching The only thing that you could have happen to them is that the sheath could be exposed to heat and melt. I have exposed them to sever cold with no adverse effect. Now that I have told you all the advantages of Kydex and Consealex ,I will say again that I still have leather.( I told you I would contradict myself.)

so I have decided to make my sheath from kydex and cover it with a thin layer of buck skin

been veggi I should go with Kydex but I quite like the look of leather. though there is the consideration of wear the knife will be used. If you doing water sports you wont want a leather sheath. Then you want the knife and sheath to look right togeather, kydex goes well with modern handles but leather goes better with wood or stacked leather handles

That works well, and can look fantastic. I've got some snakeskin that I keep meaning to try on a Kydex sheath. Probably the most important bit is installing the rivets *after* the skin is glued on, means you don't get ragged edges & it looks far more professional.

I also do leather - honest! :-D

To be honest a good leather sheath with a stone pocket is nice, though I love my sheath from Eagle systems and that is Cordura with a Kydex insert to protect.

I recently moved from a flat that suffered a bit of damp and was quite shocked to find my Ka Bar handle and sheath were covered in mould...

Worse still two of my leather jackets were attacked as well... Darn!
