Looks like a tree grown into plastering mesh.

Looks like someone has wrapped exmet round a tree to protect it from beaver/deer/rabbit and its grown through it.

Don't fancy going at that one with a chainsaw.

I did wonder about that. We had one in our front garden and the bark looked similar but was a slightly different colour. Can't imagine why anyone would put mesh around a tree, so I'll some type of Palm too?
