What a Big Blighter!

Sorting my pics and came across some I took many years back.

This was in West Cornwall...well inland?

What a big bugger! He is huge as you can see.

Not sure what type of Toad, common toads are often drab but this is mottled.

I have seen Natterjacks and they are very pretty. I think they are the most beautiful of our amphibians.

And definitely a toad and not a frog...in spite of the markings.

How can you tell?

natterjacks toads have a diagnostic yellow/gold stripe running down their back.

 

[Galemys]

Natterjacks are also smaller and more agile, they can 'run' a little mouselike, something that a common toad doesn't do.
