With the mild weather we've been experiencing there's no reason why it won't.

The bulbs may not grow quite as big as spanish ones but I know of at least 1 seed supplier supplying spanish garlic this year.

At the end of the day what have you got to loose if you try it?

Also here's the Garlic Farm website, loads of advice there

"Chit".......... Go on then

It's also what potato growers do to their spuds before planting them. If you've ever left your taters, onions or garlic lying for a few weeks you'll have seen new growths appearing. That is what happens when you purposely chit them.

It's best to chit, as the exposure to light accelerates their growth. So when you plant them they already have a little stem or whatever growing. Making the chances of a successful growth and therefore harvest much greater. Since chitting doesn't take any effort, best advice would be to chit when you can.

Edit: Stick'em inna small box, lined with old newspaper on a windowsill - it's shouldn't take long at all.

I have just used normal garlic bought from the shops loads of times, any that start sprouting I plant, sometimes done it with spuds as well with good results.

Its a doddle.

I put mine in a large planter in aug/sept.
Overwinter and plant 4" deep 6" apart.
Shop bought garlic i find tends to result in small bulbs but taste ok.
