Hi all

Well thanks to a friend on a stickmaking forum I got my grubby little mitts on some stickmaking supplies and inbetween carving woodspirits I've been working on the topper. Well today my forstner bit arrived and I couldn't resist trying it out, which resulted in this...

My first peg-and-socket joint went really well, I managed to produce a joint with no gaps which surprised me :) It was a whole lot easier than I expected it to be and I managed to judge the depth of the cut on the peg just about perfectly. One thing I did do was to try out the forstner bit on an old bit of branch first. Well, since I had such a perfect hole in this branch I cut a small section of it off and used the hole as a template for marking out the peg. Worked well :) I just have to put the ferrule on the bottom to finish it off now.

ps: Oh, and the white band is a bone spacer

It's Keiths forum, here - http://thestickman.co.uk/forum/index.php

Follow the instructions on how to join and away you go :) He's quite militant in the use of the traditional peg and socket fixing for handles instead of the modern threaded metal bar but does give very good instructions on how to do them which I found quite easy. It also saves you the cost of the bar :)

Have a look at his main site here, http://thestickman.co.uk , lots of stickmaking supplies, kits and the like as well as some of his own sticks available.
