I've inherited this axe from my late father, and would interested to learn of it's maker and/or possible origins.
The makers mark is two oppposing keys inside a circle and surmounted by a crown. Underneath it says "Gus Stahl" which simply means Cast Steel. On the other face it has a reverse J or lower case L and then a K.
If anybody can shed some light on the matter it would be appreciated!

Cast steel basically means Small Crucible steel thats had various aloying elements added to get certain desirable properties. Then its forged into shape.
Lots of good quality old chisels say Cast Steel on them but they have been forged into shape.
