Perhaps the Swiss eat a lot of steak or something, but I have never found the toothpick on Victorinox SAKs to be a particularly useful item. It's presence on an otherwise very cleverly thought out tool has always mystified me.

Does anyone know of alternative accessories which will fit in the toothpick hole? I have heard of some people buying a second pair of tweezers since they find them more useful than the toothpick. On most models jamming a second pair of tweezers in there will ruin the line of the handle since the tweezers are the wrong way round. Are there any accessories made specifically to fit the toothpick slot?

Just about anything would be more useful to me than a toothpick.

There's also a pen AFAIK.

Yep it's on the champ at least, I have one and used it once maybe twice as a pen but god knows how many times to reset simple electronics (the push pin to reset type), it's made for it, word of advice though the Ink isn't water proof, the ball sticks and if your jotting down more than a name or phone number it's uncomfortable to hold.

Could you get a little sharpenig stone/steel to fit in there? can't say i've ever seen one but it's just popped in my head, or maybe a skinny firesteel but i think it's be too thin?

When my SAK was in a fit state to do it, I remodelled the toothpick to form a stopper where in the place of the tooth pick I had a few needles. When the SAK degraded massively to include the scales parting company, repairs were made with araldite mixed with powder paint and areas enlarged to suit other things, but the tweezers were always useful.

Now my 1977 bought champ is in a word knackered, some tools have broken and the main knife is a shadow of it's former self, mind the small knife is not fab either as it has been well used and the scissor spring nno matter how many times it was replaced, it always broke.

If you heavily modified the SAK (and it had one) you could try and covert the parcel holder hook into torsion bar and then create a steel pick to replace the toothpick and you'd have a set of lockpicks in your SAK.

I rather like the toothpick and its the only reason mine still has plastic scales on it as I am not sure I could fit in a wooden scale. Look HERE for ideas

As for thr Knackered champ contact Burton McCall as assuming its a Vic it has a lifetime gaurantee. They changed two hunstmans for me no questions.
