I'm new to using a leather strop and when I bought it, it came supplied with some light honing oil and some red stropping compound.

During a long overdue clean out of the house it appears my compound got thrown out and after looking on this site I have decided to get some autosol to use on the strop.

Just one question, do you use the autosol as is, straight out of the tube, or so you use a combination of autosol and some kind of thinner / lubricant?

My previous technique (self taught and from guides on here) was to apply the compound and oil and strop until the paste had dried out and then add a little bit more oil, strop again until that had dried off. Usually that gave me a good edge.

Thanks for the help,

Craig.

autosol is great once impegnanted into the leather you still get good results.
I wouldnt be surprised if the red stuff yu had was jewlers rouge (basiclly tiny power of rust) this is great for getting a really high final polish
