UCO or REI candle lanterns

I have both the Uco lanterns and the ebay specials, and to be perfectly honest they are both very good. Certainly if money is tight the ebay ones are an excellent buy. Besides, they're prettier :) and easier to use, no sliding the glass up and down with frozen, dirty or wet hands.

I have used both the Uco candles and the cheap cut down ones from Ikea, and they all work. The difference is in the size of the melted pool of wax (too wide and it runs down the sides clogging the spring and the glass) and the amount of smoke given off.
If you clean your lanterns anyway then why pay nearly £3 for three candles instead of £1.99 for 20

In a confined space without much headroom or air movement, fair enough, and I do use the Uco ones or Price's plain white ones then.
Similarly with the tea lights, the Price's small white votive ones last for ages and give off very little smoke at all, while I find the Ikea and Au Natural ones are really smokey and sometimes very difficult to keep lit.

I reckon that candle lanterns are definitely Good Things :D

cheers,
Toddy
