I had an old Elwell 2 3/4 given to me by my brother about six months ago, so decided it was time to put a handle on it. I also picked up a nice little hatchet head at a boot sale a few days ago so I handled that also. both are made from ash, the elwell I treated wit Colron natural beeswax and the small hatchet I treated with Osmo polyx-oil. I prefer the finish on the hatcet as it really shows the beauty of the natural wood. I find the finish on the Elwell looks very rough and almost dirty, so this evening I will be sanding it back and using the polyx-oil instead.
I just finished making leather masks for both and the Gransfors wildlife hatchet is for size comparison. hope you all like :)

If anyone can help identify the make of the hatchet would be most appreicated, out of curiosity more than anything, its definatly handcrafted steel not a generic cast axe, but can see no identifying marks of anykind, cheers folks ATB Jono;)
