Can anyone ID this tree?

I have an idea, though not certain. Curious to see if anybody comes to the same conclusion.

The leaves are very young and soft.

It could well be, the bark has been throwing me off a bit though.

I think Red Oak; Collins describes the bark as pale silvery grey, sometimes brownish, and mostly smooth; fissured with age. I think, because it's multi-stemmed, the bark looks younger. Red Oaks I have seen have been older and rougher bark but I suspect it is Quercus rubra.

I expect it is a red oak. The only other thing that crossed my mind was a fern-leaved beech. But, I think red oak is most likely.

The bark does look more beechy, doesn’t it? Leaves don’t look quite right though. Then again, I am no expert.

I have never seen a Fern-leaf Beech (Fagus sylvatica heterophylla) but I thought the leaves are narrower than in your photo and less deeply lobbed.

Yeah, I think the leaves look much more like a red oak.

Lovely tree, I'll keep an eye on it over the coming seasons.
