I know this might be a weird one (one which may reveal my ignorance anyway). Does anyone know where I can buy a pointy metal tip I can attach to a wooden (tracking) stick.

I am sure everyone will now post me saying why don't I sharpen my stick to a point:eek:

I use those ferrules too. A rubber end is also handy for walking on hard surfaces. They just fit over the apline ferrule.

Have you tried putting a compass in the top of your stick?

I sometimes make ferrules by cutting a short length of copper pipe and tapping it onto a mechanics socket to flare one end. You can then gently tap it onto a tapered end of a walking stick and pin it in place with a small nail
