Looks like a common toad to me the only other being the Natterjack which is easily identified by a prominent central stripe - I love toads :)

I thought the toad in this picture was a common toad:

Toad11.jpg

Are both these toads the same species then?

I do realize that there are only two native toad species in Britain but I have heard of there being sightings of non-native species.

That looks more like an aberrantly coloured frog (Rana temporaria) to me. It does have goose bumps though.

Natterjack toads live on more sandy soils than common toads.

Thanks I just checked over my other pictures and I can see how I got confused.

The frogs I usually see are much smaller than the above specimen and they are darker. Because this one was walking rather than jumping, had the warts on its body and was so huge I presumed it must be a toad.

Having looked over my other pictures I can see that it is indeed a common frog just much brighter and bigger than I'm used to seeing around here.
