Managed a bit of time to make some items this week. First off is prototype no.2 for the folding buck saw. I posted no.1 a while back and this is a tidier attempt using ideas from others in the design. Works a treat although not sure if green is a wise colour!
Next is a pot holder/stove for my MSR Titan Kettle. Basically just a cut down faulty Optimus pot that had a hole in with a few rivets and holes drilled. The base holding the stove was Alu soldered to the vertical piece and the stove was a can of sure deodorant with a ring of felt. Nice and steady pot holder that is not too affected by the wind.....really just a knockoff of a Trangier!
Last is an attempt to make a wood rasp by hand. I bought a bit of HSS tool steel and tried a few different point styles for my tooth punch before hitting on one type that worked well. I used some unknown probably mild steel to make some test teeth and eventually got some nice teeth that cut really well. I think with a bit more practice I will make a full size rasp in 01 Steel, it really doesn't take that long to do but it did make my hand ache holding the punch!
