I have newts in my garden too, I spotted one slipping into the pond on Sunday morning, and like you I thought, hmmm, things are wakening up.
We no longer have GC newts. The council gave permission for three blocks of flats to be built on the 'hayfield' over the burn a few years ago.:cussing:

This is now tarmac, walls and 96 flats :sigh: and no great crested newts.

such a great shame all this building ......I have always had the small palmates but this is first great crested I have seen .....odd frogs and only ever seen one toad
