I know someone who decorated her garden with the bore rods from the test holes to check for gold. You can actually see the specks of gold in amongst the stone 
It's only commercially viable to extract it though when gold reaches a certain price.

Good spot Shewie. Ive been watching Gold Rush Alaska and Gold Divers on discovery. Very entertaining stuff. Am taping it as Mrs Thrill has Eastenders on 
A mate of mine panned enough in the Mennock valley to make his & his wife's wedding rings, but doubt you could make a living at it there.
Panning is mostly used now as a locating method in before you bring in Sluice box and or a dredge, unless you find deposit in large concentrations it's just not worth it commercially but can be a nice little hobby earner.
