I have an austrian dachstein cardigan, thick wool, great thing, but the opti zip is past its sell by date.

Its 81cm long.

Its such a nice bit of clothing, it deserves a good zip replacement. What are the best zippers you can get?

I think metal, are considered better than plastic arent they?

Where are they sold in the UK?

Thanks.

Don't know a lot about them really but I do know there are a lot on e-bay simply typing in heavy duty metal zippers....I know this only because I was looking a month ago for one to replace a dodgy zip in an old smock, I actually ended up taking it to a 'Zip Repair/Replacement' place in my local shopping precinct where it was replaced professionally at a price I was more than happy with and pleasantly surprised by. (saved me a lot of cursing and stabbed fingers too)

I'd visit a shop that builds covers for boats. They buy Delrin zipper in 100+' spools.
I find that the Delrin doesn't ice up as easily as a metal zipper.
However, my Carhartt barn coat has seen 15+ Canadian winters and the metal zipper (brass?) is OK.
What that is and where they source that stuff, I have no idea. You get what you pay for.
