I'd made a new centre piece for the yurt roof and wanted to try it out in the back garden...
The piece is to go over over the space in the middle of the roof. I want to put a piece of the stove pipe through it...

I put in a bit of silicone oven sheet to hold the pipe away from the canvas...

And while I tried it out, I wanted to see how hot the top of the stove got, I melted some snow and got it to a light boil on one load of wood, so I think it should be ok in the yurt...

That's a very good idea using the silicon sheeting :approve: How eminently practical :D
Somewhere I have a reel of thread that came labelled fireproof asbestos  I think it was intended for fireblankets and the like.
If I come across it, you're very welcome to it.

cheers,
M

This might sound mad , but a mate used a metal dust bin lid on top of his yurt (ish ) for the stove pipe to go through .

I like the dustbin idea, hadn't thought of that!

I did wonder about a fireblanket Mary, but was going to staple it, so a bit of thread would be very useful... Thank you for the offer.
