Ten days of foraging

Packed along some staples, set up a comfortable camp, and spent my vacation "seeking what I might devour".

Ate: Pine, hemlock, berry brambles, rose hips, wintergreen, sweetfern, mint, persimmons, red currants, raspberries, apples, hickory nuts, acorns, oyster mushrooms, venison.

Could have eaten: Freshwater mussels, countless squirrels, three raccoons, 'possum, garter snake, rock tripe, partridge berries, cattail roots, various inner barks.

Hemlock the coniferous tree, not the poisonous herbaceous biennial.

Having first heard the word used to describe huge conifers, I was a bit puzzled when I heard it used for the herb too

There are lots of Hemlocks, deer, and wild turkeys here in the mountains in the S.E. U.S. where I live. I too was once confused by the name of the tree and the herb. Where were you doing your foraging?
