If you thought the film of the old Finnish man rehandling an axe was good, you'll like this one probably even better

https://youtu.be/TgbdWsmNu64

Its all in Finnish, but the man demonstrates how to rehandle 2 different billnas axes, including a wedging method I never saw before, plus he reprofiles a felling axe to give it a straighter cutting edge
Apologies if its been mentioned on BCUK before. Well worth a watch! (the axe section starts @ around 3 minutes)

This was filmed by Työtehoseura (Work Efficiency Institute) in 1955 as the first part of a three-part instructional series teaching how to maintain forestry tools. The other two parts were about saws, spuds and drawknives. The films were preceded by a 100-page book which I have a copy. Later in 1958 they also produced a film about chainsaws, which one can watch below.

The axe heads used in the film were 12/2, TEHO felling axe and TEHO splitting axe, which were manufactured by a few ironworks, out of which Billnäs (owned by Fiskars) was the largest. The wood used looks very much like birch, but the Institute also recommend using rowan or ash.

Agree, superb movies.
That guy in the uniform is a master. The ease he does it with is amazing.

I am not sure the wedging can be done on a handle made from well dried hickory.
