To the hive mind,
I’m thinking of asking nearest and dearest to buy me a Helikon-tex Swagman Roll for Christmas. I’d value input on the following:
1/ is it a useful garment for sitting still at camp and/or observing nature?
2/ what colour do you favour - not DPM or MTP or Woodland as I’ve worn those quite enough

Funnily enough, my wife has been asking what I'd like for Christmas and I've been thinking of the same thing! A good friend of mine that I camp with regularly is very keen on his. He doesn't wear it all that often, but does like to sleep in it through the warmer months and even incorporates it into his winter sleep system by adding a second lightweight sleeping bag.

I think it would work very well as a warm layer around camp, but would be somewhat concerned about it catching a spark while around a fire.

As for colour, I think I'd go for the Olive or Sand/Brown.

Helikon have a sale at present!
Thanks for input.
Anyone seen the dark (“chocolate”) brown version? I have their smock in that colour and find it very forgiving on long Scout camps + it blends in with trunks.
My fashion sense (yeah, right) worries about overdoing one colour…

Yes I have a bergen (well my son has it) in choc brown. Nice colour but makes me want to eat a box of Maltesers...

I've got one in brown, really nice and warm and I love the fact that it doubles as an underblanket for my hammock. I'm not sure I would use it as a sleeping bag but it's certainly good enough for a bit of extra warmth chucked over you.

I’ve had 4 of them. Tiger Stripe, Desert Night Camo x 2, Earth Brown. Sold the Tiger and one of the Desert Night Camo. The brown is nice in an Obi Wan kinda way and that one lives in my van. Tiger was a bit too ninja for me, too loud for my look. Desert Night Camo is my favourite as it’s an olive drab but with some interest.

All the other greens look like old army blankets. Personally better than Snugpak Jungle Blanket as they don’t snag toenails like that inner does on the Snuggies, and excellent for sitting around in.

If you want a pic of the Night Camo that isn’t stock, let me know and I’ll sort it.

Best place to buy for cheap is eBay Polish shops. They are directly linked to Helikon, like their hidden outlets. One is Woodland Tactical, the other is SAS (can’t remember what that stands for now, but you’ll find them). Good service, fine with returns (you pay postage).

Edit: Sharp Accessories Store. I’m pretty sure Woodland Tactical and SAS are the same and directly linked to Helikon.

thank you for that input. I've been looking at the Desert Night Camo as it's sort of "camo lite" - not Action Man, not plain. If you able to post a few pictures, I'd be grateful.
