For £2 I'm pretty happy :)

Just needs a very minor going over to really flatten it out. Otherwise seems to be pretty good.

Google doesn't turn up much other than it's an artificial water stone of course / intermediate grit. Anyone know much about this particular stone, I.e. is it any good? Or what grit it is?

I don't own anything else to compare it too myself.

Its a double sided. I've not played with waterstones much but like it so far :) The stone wears away much faster than I expected. Are there any recommendations for a finer stone to compliment it at a reasonable price?

The lower the grit the softer the stone like Rob says. I'd keep using it, should be great for knives

Thanks gents. Wasn't sure if softness came with the coarse grits or if it was a sign of a poor stone. Now I know:)

I'll track down a finer grit stone at some point to use after this one.

A strop would be a great addition after using both sides of the stone. Knives don't need really fine stones
