Can anyone recommend me what stropping paste to buy I am going to order some stuff from axeminster tommorow and I am unsure as to which one to get. They have a pink polishing compound and various different colours, they also have pastes.

Any help would be welcome thanks.

Sounds right - I bought pink & green from axminster - comes in large and small blocks, variously called buffing or polishing compound

I agree. Pink compound for a high polish. In order they should be grey for starting. It will remove small scratches and give a matt finish. Then move on to blue. This will remove the scratches made by the grey and give a satin finish, and finally the pink to remove the satin scratches and give a mirror shine.

Remember to use separate wheels/strops for each colour. Don't use different colours on the same strop/buffing wheel as it will cause the grits to mix and you'll not get a decent finish.

I use a green block of the stuff that Old Jimbo was kind enough to send me. It works wonders and lasts a long time. I usually just cut up an old cereal box and paste the stuff onto it. Strop it a few times and voila...insant smoothness!

I have ordered one of the Sabatier razor strops today, not sure what it will be like. I would like to try a few different pastes, I might get some of the Sabatier paste.

Thanks.

Well my strop and paste arrived today from axeminster. The strop is a sabatier, double sidded one side for charging with the pink coloured polishing compound, the oyher for a finale stropping. I tried it out on my freshly re ground stainless steel knife, WOW what can I say it is now so sharp that i can shave hairs, the blade edge is so shinny you can see your face in it. VERY IMPRESSED. thanks everyone for your advice.

Simon.
