I have an assortment of scraps of leather. Chrome leather of various thicknesses, stiffness and with back sides of varying hairiness.
I have several leftovers of veg tanned leather.

What are the characteristics of good leather for use as a strop?

(It will be glued down to a rigid surface rather than being a flexible razor type strop)

Something that doesn't stretch easily. It can't wrinkle, sort of thing.
I'm pretty sure that Russ made mine out of veg tanned, I think it's 5mm thick.
Been using my strop for years :) Occasionally clean it off with meths and restart the compound base, but that's pretty much all the care it gets.
