2019 begins with a momentous gift – the tale of blustery winter evening.

The poem is considered among the great works of American literature, and it entered the public domain January 1.

The entire text is in the article, below. I can see myself in the narrator's position, lingering beside the woods as they fill with snow.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

- Woodsorrel

" 18 yards from the back door to the back fence
beyond that - a snowy wooded hillside forest garnished with wildlife."

(Composed by Brian the Canuck, 2019, when he was sitting indoors, with a jar of home brew in his hand, looking on the falling snow flakes)

This is a nice Poem.

It is indeed a beautiful poem and more so for the emotions it stirs in us beyond the immediate narrative - a sign of all great prose?

This and "two paths crossed in a wood" might almost have been written at the same point in time and a footfall behind or in front.

It wasn't meant to be a poem, really.
I was musing about the back yard IN THE CITY. Yes, not my home in the mountains
where the deer rest in the shade in my grape vines.
It's all too easy to compress decades of experiences into a few sentences.

The back fence means very little to the bears, the deer and the moose and their offspring.
They commonly jump the fence, the bears come up on the deck.
The foxes, coyotes and grouse keep their distance.
Miss Alice (dog) becomes Miss Hyde and keeps the yard "clean."

It's dark and snowing like hello.17" wet in -2C and big S wind.
Stand at the sink with a cup of coffee and watch the forest wave good night.
