Stopped cutting the nettles...

Was in a slashy sort of mood so set out into the fields with my machete. Had fun chopping docks, thistles, brambles & nettles but when I got to a particularly large patch of nettles, saw this:

Obviously where the damselflies like to lay their eggs, there were quite a few on there. Left the patch where it was...

Damselflies lay their eggs in water. However the adults will often rest in foliage such as nettles, and as they are also predatory nettle patches make good hunting grounds.

This one certainly couldn't be egg-laying as it is a male.

Every day is an education! Thank you! Thought I saw some nymph cases on the leaves but sounds like that's not what's going on...

Nettle is great for loads of stuff so it is good to leave fair sized patches of it. Little patches are of little benefit. All sorts of butterflies, flies, beetles and spiders like it, just for starters.

I shall leave them that corner of the field. All trees are in tubes there so less likely to get overgrown than where there are spirals
