Howdy folks!
Sometime in the near future, I'm hoping to buy a knifeblade to put a handle on (got some antler off a friend a couple weeks back :D) but I'm torn... what should I look for the blade to be made of, stainless steel or carbon steel? I've never had a carbon steel blade, so I really don't know any advantages or drawbacks to it, but I'm quite fond of the Clipper's stainless blade... should I just buy one of each? At around £6 each for the blades I'm thinking of at The Good Stuff, it'll hardly break the bank to buy two - even mine!

Opinions pleeease!

Cheers!

Near salt water stainless would make sense. Carbon is generally easier to sharpen in the field, but the Clipper is not so difficult to sharpen either way.

What/ Where is The Good Stuff? I assume a store to buy knife bits.

Me being the gear junkie/geek that I am, I'd have to say that the only difference between a carbon and a stainless Clipper is in the ease of sharpening. The carbon version's a bit easier to sharpen but the stainless well...we all know what that does. In a way, they both balance each other out. The edge retention's also about the same, but batoning with the carbon version doesn't chip the blade as much as on the stainless verion. At least, that's been my experience.

Just my two cents,

Adam
