Stainless Edge Pro Apex-style sharpener on Ebay - anyone tried it?

I'm thinking about getting one and swapping out the stones for the official Edge Pro ones.

I would probably get rid of that handle and replace it with a ball. Of course, you'd have to check the angle with a protractor or electronic angle finder.

If anyone has given one of these a go, I would love to hear the pro's and con's. I would imagine it would be a bit better/stiffer/more durable than the plastic Apex-clone on Ebay.

Ah, there might not be to many people who have bought one here as the listing says "does not ship to the UK"

Thanks. I have messaged the guy about shipping to UK and will let you know what he says.

In the mean time I asked around on bladeforums dot com and will let you know if anyone has good/bad things to say about it in the States.

i'm sorry, since the platform will Assess to order of each site. but the website of United Kingdom in our store is not so much, so we are not ship to your country now.
but u can buy it from your local market, it's also our dropping.
hope u can understand us.

Can anyone decipher that? I don't want anything to do with medicinal droppings from the local Chinese market :)
 
I just bought a coffee grinder off amazon but reading between the lines it was better to pay a few quid more for a locally shipped one and that avoided the import duty. not sure there would be much on 18 pounds ???

I believe you only pay import duty on stuff over £130 or so. The only thing I might get hit with is some B.S "handling fee" courtesy of Royal Mail.

For anyone interested, the Chinese fella said it's possible to purchase it through the aliexpress website, just not Ebay. I like ebay/paypal for the protection it offers. Personally I've never heard of aliexpress. Has anyone here used em?

I know some people who've received what they've ordered, and I know some people who now advise to steer well clear. In as much as there is some (not a lot) protection from e-bay/paypal for stuff from China, there's even less from ali-express. PS. The import duty rules changed last year 6% Duty Rate 17% Sales Tax (VAT), no such thing as "gifts" any more, Duty & VAT free if total <£15, Duty free if value is <£135 or if Duty <£9 whichever is the higher. Duty VAT varies according to country

I think he's saying, not much custom came through their UK store website, so they don't ship there anymore.
I think "local market" refers to buying within EU, maybe they have a German or French "store"?

So, if a relative in the USA sends me something literally as a gift, such as some jeans and jumpers with the tags/receipts etc removed - and if they mark the value as nil, and "clothing - gift", would the goods be held or something? Seems like a crazy rule if that's the case.
 
Cool, I've never seen that one before. It's actually "copy" (homage?) of the Edge Pro. The real deal is $165 for the base model, and this metal mickey Chinese version is $35 or so.
 


If you really want a gadget thing to sharpen your knife mid recommended getting a branded one like this lansky.

Not something I'd buy, but for the impatient sharpening newbs and the uber collectors they seem ideal.
