It might be where the nylon strap has become polished around the plastic buckle, I've had that before and I just put some grease on it. Seemed to work but there's probably a cleaner way.

If you adjust the straps does it still squeak ?

What sort of bag is it?
Internal/external frame?
Nylon/canvas?
metal/Plastic buckles?

an old army trick is to tape everything down that rattles or makes noise with electric/duct tape, but this hinders any further adjustment.

I agree though some sort of "slippy" addition would be the best bet.
you could try rubbing a wax crayon or candle on the area.

The sack is a flecktarn copy of an issue bergan and has an internal alloy frame. it is very comfey to use, so i am reluctant to stop using it. Flecktarn, because I like the spots!
