Hi Folks
As some of you may know I've started stabilizing and plastizicing wood.
Both the above treatments enhance spalted wood in particular.
The very thing that makes the wood different / attractive (spalting) actually weakens the wood structure as those who have cut untreated spalted wood can attest too, it splits easily when being worked.
Very annoying when it happens on the final sanding....

These scales are also impregnated with brass powder, so provide a little richer colour, brass is seen only at certain angles, my photography sucks so you can't see it showing in the spalting veins as you can with the naked eye.

The wavey patterns are not watermarks but additional wave like patterns on top of the spalting....gorgeous.

- Stabilized still feels and handles like wood, treatment binds fibres together preventing warping, rotting etc, looks great finished with Danish Oil
- Plasticized, wood that is impregnated with plastic, feels a little like plastic, does not need treating and buffs to a shine, essentially the wood is set in time.
