I went up to Crickhowell today to visit the Tools for Self Reliance Cymru store, just because I felt like it. Good decision.

Got myself a couple of cast iron glue pots, very rusty but sound. They are not part of a set so they don't fit together, but I don't want them as a glue pot anyway so that's ok. The big one is intended as a campfire cooking pot once the rust is removed and I season it.

What they looked like originally.

After some elbow grease with a wire brush, and some use of a sander...

Now, how do I get the rust off the inside? Suggestions?

My other purchase was this adze.

Appalling edge on it (I pulled a half inch burr off the edge whilst in the store) but at £25 for an adze I'm not complaining at all. This is a solid tool and when sharp will be a real worker. I'm delighted.

Whilst I'm on the subject of TSR, here's my main user axe, bought from them a year or two ago. The stamp says Swedish Axe Forge. The head is a bit heavy for the length of handle, but I like it that way. Its an effective splitter and good chopper. If I recall correctly I paid £12, and the guy in she shop apologised for the high price, explaining that they charge more for Swedish axes because of the quality of the steel.

Sorry if I sound like I'm advertising here. I'm not. No affiliation etc. I'm just pleased with my acquisitions. Thanks for looking.

Drat; bike it is then. I cycled about 45 or so miles today; that'll have to do as a warm up. Not sure about carrying a hatchet in my back pocket though...
