Hello
Could one of you photography experts recommend a new camera for me please?
I want something really small and compact and rechargeble via usb. I want to take pics in the dark sometimes so a flash too.

Panasonic gf1 with the 20mm pancake lens is about as good as I could get for the size.

I actually sold my Nikon D3 outfit to buy one and while I'm never going to see the same results, I take better photos with the GF1 because I can have it with me all the time. I have discovered that having one of the best cameras in the world at home because it's massive is less handy than a damn good small camera in my pocket.

Totally- agree with the sentiments, although the camera is a little on the steep side (£550 from a quick Google search). It's a great camera and I know from the reviews / mags etc, that it is very capable.

Without a price range its always going to difficult to recommend anything other than general advice.

Sensors
------------------------

What Squidders is saying is right on the money - his Nikon D3 has an incredible sensor, his GF1 not as good, but still much better than a standard compact. Basically the bigger the sensor the better the quality and more crucially in low light, the less noise you will get.

The GF1 is a "Four Thirds System" and as you can see its much bigger than a standard compact sensor (the bottom row).

I'm happy to give any more info/help, but a price range would make things easier.

Thanks for all your help :)

Price range I'm looking at £200-250 which I know is not going to get me pro-kit but I hope to get a decent point and shoot type camera.
I wont be printing big sized pics, just for forums and emailing and printing out pictures for photo frames.

Im no pro and could never give the advice as detailed above but what I can add is that we have a Canon Powershot A570is and a Canon Eos something or other and whilst the Eos give fantastic results the little Powershot does a cracking job and the image stabilisation is a nice feature that appears to work well.

This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Power...3H4S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297198602&sr=8-1

After having a D3 and a load of pro glass my sense of price is a little messed up... as is my sense of size.

I don't know if it's too big but I'd look for something like a Canon G10 on ebay - you can get them for under £200 and they are still great cameras.

Try an s90 from canon, or the new 95. Superb, all settings can be changed like an slr. Goes everywhere with me now in my pocket.
