I only found out recently that there was a Downy Birch that looked very similar to Silver Birch.
Would I be right in thinking that the trees with the drooping branches at the end would be Silver and the one with the more erect branches are Downy?
I'm interested if there are other ways to tell since they aren't in leaf this time of year yet, The reason I ask is that I heard that Downy has the better bark for kindling.
