Hi All

Recently I did my first wood carving on a piece of wood found in our street. I am not even sure what wood it is, but when it was debarked the inside was very whitish without much grains I can see. and it was quite dense, and yet soft to carve, and it seems to hold details reasonably well. It is only about 2 inches tall, and still needing to be smoothed out with sand paper. I have changed my avatar with the picture of my carved statue. :) Right now, I have put some linseed oil on it to prevent it from splitting.

I have found it hugely interesting, and am thinking of keep carving more - maybe all the statue faces in the Easter island. They all look relatively simple so easier to carve for a beginner like me.

But please upload your wood carvings here be it old or recent ones - I would love to see them. :)

Thanks & regards.

Just finished this a few nights ago and tried it 3 times now. Smokes a dream.

Finished dyeing it today, it looks a lot darker in normal light. I've never been one for taking pictures on a mobile and getting results.

It's well seasoned cherry, I used a folding saw, a coping saw, various drill bits, my bushcraft knife and my folder. Finally a bent gouge to rusticate it and a bit of sand paper. Not really wood carving I guess, more general wood work perhaps. I'm happy with it...
