I'm looking for a sheep hide for making a sheath for one of my swords. It's sort of an experiment, to be honest, in making a traditional viking-age sheath - the hide is to be stiched over the blade (wool against the blade!), covered in wood, then wrapped in leather, or rawhide and leather. The wool will allegedly stop the blade falling out, will protect the edge of the sword (as opposed to the normal metal locket, and even though my swords are unsharpened!) and the lanolin is supposed to protect the blade from rusting. I only need a bit about 6x36" long (guestimation!) so it'd be a bit of a shame to buy a whole hide...
Anyone know where I can get a hold of some?
