Does anyone have any thoughts on using an old canvas scout patrol tent for winter car camping in the Uk. I am assuming that being canvas no real fire Hazard using a wood stove. I keep looking at eBay as there always some for sale around the 150 mark. Not really worried about snow loading as probably won't happen on the few days I'm out. I have not slept in one of these for 30 years so cannot remember much about hem. Any ideas thanks.

If you're buying off ebay try and get to see the tent erected, or at least take it out of the bag and check it over when you go to pick it up. There's no telling how well they have been kept or even how old they are in some cases.

If you get a good one it's worth sorting some sort of flysheet arrangement for it. It makes it much more cosy and considerably easier to heat.
I have used them singly or in tandem (end-to-end) for years, all year round. I never had a woodstove in them but had a good selection of paraffin stoves, lanterns and bowl fires.
They're not very fashionable at the moment but they offer robust and spacious accomodation in all weathers.
