Duncan,

I own a scout model, made by Primus. My buddy Alex owns the regular (military?) size model.

I actually prefer the smaller one, to be honest. Celtic's right about the size, but you can make your firesteel's last a lot longer by only using little bits of the rod at the time.

PS: Intestingly enough, the can opener on a SAK works wonders as a striker!

cheers guys anybody got the Exact measurements ( I have tryed the web)

i got a cunning plan see :theyareon: :thinkerg: :22:

i have a large firessteel with no handle. which is a little big for said plan

and like the little 3mm rods of the BCB kits you can strip off the metal holder and fit them in a SAK in place of the toothpick (cos you can make a toothpick )

The american one is very small and ideal for keyrings. I own both and it's the one I always have with me as a result of its small size.

What size is th regular firesteel size. I bought one and its a bit to thin to fit in my knife sheath, it doesn't touch the sides.
