is there any way, we can let the mods know or do it ourselves (if the originator) if the things we put up for sales swap ect to be removed. to save us trailing through three pages of products only to find a little sold sign?

I normally edit the first post with NOW SOLD THANKS at the top so it's readable even on the preview.
It can be frustrating sometimes to find an item has sold a long time ago and the post has not been updated, but it doesn't really happen that often.
