We have just a great morning at a Rustic crafts day held at the Rural life centre near Tilford, Surrey and would whole heartedly recommend it to any one, were going to pop back in a few weeks when there are not any events on, to see the place as just a museum, here were a great range of crafts and skills on show from pole lathes to lace weaving, forging to basketry, and so much more, the museum alone looks so good, there are a lot of guys who work on site such the Old Kiln Forge and Emma O'Driscoll A leather worker, green wood workers and wood turners and a Bee orchard. heres a few pics and links at the bottom, Such a COOOL place!
Guys building some timber frame sheds to store some of the larger vehicles,
With some of the machinery being of a ripe old age there were a few problems keeping them running, this HUGE chopp chain saw being one of them,
Really great PTO saw table,
And a stunning Lister single cylinder running a PTO to a saw table,
As part of the permanent museum there were lots of displays showing rural skills and trades, here is one of the trapping cases,
everything from mouse traps, Eel traps up to man traps! the sun was shining through the back of the display which made the pics quite bad, so here is a list of what is in this case,
Choppers and a massive saw!
stunning carved wooden and horn spoons
A phenomenal collection of hand wood working tools! check out the buck saw back right,
An odd little collection of winter kit, Telemark skis, snow shoes with small ski bases, ski pole baskets, a beautiful sledge and crampons,
The bindings were pretty cool, slide adjustable with a leather toe strap rather than the bar across the bill that we get normally
There were a few wood workers there, this guy was ace, nice chap too
It is a very well aid out and relaxed place, We will be visiting regularly on the theme days and more, the Forge guys run courses throughout the year, there is a lady called Emma O'Driscoll who will be running leather working basics courses(contact the centre for more int)
I also have some video of the Water wheel powered heavy hammer and iron furnace running at the forge, but as useual it take me a while to up load them so will update once they are done,
Rural Life Centre order of events this year,
