Often had me laughing out loud when he recited the Janet and John stories in the mornings... And not forgetting that wonderful rendition of "The Floral Dance"

It's to be hoped that this seeming plague upon our icons will not be too great this year.

It seems like many of the names we grew up with are getting to the end of their lives.

So true and a pertinent if less than wanted reminder of one's mortality for those on the wrong side of 50.

Many thousands of hours broadcasting on radio and tv with plenty of opportunity to do so, but no nasty or snide remarks about anyone, just gentle mickey taking or funny observations on life and a way of expressing what others couldn't or wouldn't put into words. I knew someone who worked at the BBC and she told me even the most star studded "Celebrities" knew they wouldn't cast their auras over Sir Terry, so not to try, but all left smiling and happy with their self esteem intact after one of his interviews.
