Retreating a plane blade.

I have been given a spoke shave by a kind friend, alas the blade's temper has been damaged by over heating when sharpening. I've no idea what steel it is made from.

Is there any way I can retreat this blade in the hope of rescuing it?

Thanks

J

Is it a wooden or metal spokeshave?

If metal then you can get replacements pretty easily. If it's a wooden one then it might be best seeing if a knife maker could re heat treat it for you

If its regular high carbon steel (i.e. more than 10 years old) it can be retreated - I'll happily do it for you if you send it to me. Drop me a PM
Cheers
