Hi Chris,

I've always believed it was but can find nothing so far, although it is recommended for marble table tops and work surfaces and i wouldn't have thought it would be recommended in those situations if it wasn't food safe?.

Yes I thought it should be hence why I tried it but both marble and metal are basically nonporous wood is porous so there will be far more ren wax involved.

Its a shame they don't tell you what is in it.

Thanks Guys, I had check the web site to no avail and pinged an email over to them. Looking at the like IanM posted I an not that worried though as I would expect that most of the white spirit would have evaporated before I use the spoon again anyway.

If I get a responce from the manufacture I will post it here.

FYI This is the response I got from Picreator.

Thank you for your enquiry. Renaissance is a blend of food-grade waxes and
is safe in most types of use in the kitchen. However, I would hesitate to
use the wax or any chemical on a surface which is in direct contact with
your mouth. I doubt if any harm would result from accidental ingestion of
some of the (dry) wax but, please use utmost discretion!! And, of course,
keep the can well out of small children's access. Generally, the use
of Renaissance wax to seal porous surfaces (wood, soft stone etc) is ideal
and will not darken the original colour

I hope these comments will assist you.

A good way to seal wood that you are going to be using for food use, is mineral oil. You can get it at most drug stores or super markets. For a spoon, I would just put some oil in a conatiner that the spoon fits into, and let the spoon soak in it for a few days. I have sealed bowls using mineral oil, by just filling the bowl with the oil and letting it soak for a few days. Mineral oil is definitely food safe.
