Synthetic - bulkier & heavier but cheaper

Down - Less bulky & lighter but more expensive :)

Depends what you're after really mate, what sort of budget are you thinking ?

If you want to treat yourself then I'd recommend the Alpkit bags, I've got the Pipedream 600 and can't rate it highly enough. I'm also down on the waiting list for the 400 :) They get them made in batches which sell out really quickly these days so you need to get yourself signed up for their newsletter.

If you can't stretch to a down then I really liked my Snugpak Elite 4 which I used for winter camping for a couple of years. Well made and just down the road from you, try and call in to their factory shop for a few bargains :)

not realy fussed on budget. just after something light as poss but warm as poss. im wanting to do some monsterous seshes like pennine way from start to finish back to start etc... going to bang out all the monroes after xmas so need something hardy. will be retiring to woodland at night i think so probobly be in a hamock but some will be tent based on the hills

PHDesigns are a small company with a big rep. The beauty of their site is that you can design your own bag, as well as other items of outdoor equipment. Costly but very good.

Look at the Alpkit stuff Shewie mentioned then. If you want something light weight put your name down for a Pipe Dream. They sell out as soon as they come in (that's how popular they are :) ) or if you don't mind carrying the extra weight and bulk and want something warmer then maybe the Sky High
