Good to see RM in some proper habitat at last (ITV here tonight). He nearly had as many costume changes as America's Next Top Model, he must have nearly as many coats as me!

Having spent some time studying Black Grouse, I have to disagree with his statement about Black cock flattening the vegetation, they do on a very small scale but tend to lek where sheep and deer have grazed the sweeter grasses harder.

I thought it was rubbish tonight, more wildlife in my back garden, I love his bushy stuff but tonight? nahhhh! The shops will run out of those caps, I have one in black. :)

Thats what its like in the hills I'm afraid, lots of walking for very few but specialised species. Thought he might have seen some dotterel - spectacular birds.

Still a good watch with several little, subtle, tips like using a gas stove instead of lighting a fire on the "heather" - or was it gorse? At least he had the courage to say he couldn't find those ptarmigans but the film crew did.

Just thinking of someone who would have had some docile ones put near his hotel so he could have caught one by stealthily crawling up to it (or dropped out of a 50' pine - even there was none of them there) , ate it raw and made gloves and a hat from it's feathers and skin. (mentioning no names of course )

Well as an inexperienced wildlife watcher/stalker/bushcrafter, I've enjoyed this series and have seen parts of the uk I haven't been able to get to yet and what I've missed in the bits I've been visiting for years. I know this is a bit of a departure from what Ray is best known for, but obviously something he loves. I guess seeing this kind of wildlife comes as a bit of a by-product for more hardened BCers who've got the opportunity to be able to get really away from it all. But shouldn't we make the general public more aware of what is actually on this little rock of ours? Hoping they don't all go rushing off to the areas we hold dear. Having watched a few of these I feel like I have been educated in some way. the number of coats really didn't feature for me, perhaps I was more involved in the topic than the fashion. But I can confirm I for one won't be getting one of those hats.

Having said that I would love to see a new RM bushcraft series on tv. But is there a public appetite for it?

The coat thing only registered with me as I wear a Special 6 and Halcon (not at the same time!) - can't justify a Swazi (or Ridgeline) at the mo. Not sure how many layers he was wearing under the Buffalo, but they are much better with just a wicking layer or nowt underneath.

He was brewing up on heather, he'd have been better off taking a flask! Open access regs around here don't allow stoves - the killjoys!
